Why Pacific Rim is Under Rated.

Pacific Rim is one of those film's that i will recommend to people on a regular basis, one of the main reasons being that it is a very easy way of killing a spare two hours if you have nothing else to do or need inspiration for movie night. Which is why it is frustratiing to see that some people are calling it things like an Evangelion rip off or Power Ranger's for a more mature audience, the latter of which i fail to see as a problem.
Nevertheless here are a couple of reason's why i think this film is worth watching.
First and foremost is that this film is pure spectacle, from the beautifully realised environments and characters to the epic sense of scale, the whole film has a lot to appreciate from an artistic perspective. And i would expect nothing less of Guillermo Del Toro as he played a massive roll in bringing the concept's of this film to life, not only as a director but also as one of the artist's. He knows how to bring realism into an otherwise fictional world, with a racially and nationally diverse cast at the helm as well as plenty of extra's that clearly remind you of the films geographic spread.
He appears to take great pride in the Action sequence's as well, which bring's me to the point of showing micheal bay how robot fights shuld be done, their is no quick close-up action that give's you a headache after a while. The camera is pulled back to allow you to take in the environment around the fight and see the collatoral damage that happen's around them in the process, the film does this in a way that gives the Jaegers and Kaiju a real presence on screen, as they should for something over seventy metre's tall.
My other point is that it is very humbling in its humanising of the unique conflict within the film, becuse although you go to see robot's punch the spit out of monster's you also get to see the very real human struggle of day to day life. The constant antisipation of the next attack as the resources to fight the Kaiju grow more and more scarce, it doesnt hold back on showing how devastated the world is.
To wrap this up my point is that this film takes the time to build this world right infront of your eyes so that rather than just feelng like your watching another CGI fest you are actually being immersed into this world to such an extent that you feel the horror of the attacks , you understand the impending danger that these characters face and love or hate them you want them to succeed.
And the action sequences have you on the edge of your seat as humanity desperately fight's a war they are clearly loosing.
So what are you waiting for?, go and see this film!
